Handcrafted by a traditional candlemaker established in 1914, these fourty candles are made with rice bran wax, a unique material extracted during the rice milling process, which, together with the enclosed washi paper wick, creates less soot and drips than regular candles, while, being harder than conventional wax, burning much longer with a brighter, steady flame.
Each candle (h9,5cm, excl. wick) is made through a traditional technique called tegake (手掛け), mastered by just a few highly skilled craftsmen and where only a small number of wax blocks can be produced each day due to the time-consuming process of hand coating the wax one layer at a time. Unscented and without artificial colorings, they are crafted with 100% vegetable based materials. Sustainable, vegan and earth friendly. *Candle holder not included.
