Designed by Fumie Shibata, this donabe (土鍋, literally "earthenware pot") is the most refined representation of a Japanese icon: all year long - and especially during wintertime - every Japanese gather around one to taste one of the countless "hot pots", the classic meal consisting of a single dish enclosed in a pot which, accompanied by a bowl of white rice, makes an entire dinner (or lunch), which is typically shared between several people.
Simple yet functional, it is made of heat-resistant ceramic and can be used on gas, induction or halogen hobs.
It has a low water absorption rate, so stains do not seep in, while the multi-layer base guarantees uniform cooking.
The pot can be used to simmer and stew as it is, while inserting the included steam plate, it can also be used for steaming.
Microwave and oven safe, it shouldn't be cleaned in the dishwasher, nor used for deep frying.
For a luxurious meal with friends or a rich Sunday banquet, the donabe is a gem to try! (and of which you can never do without!)
