Unlike its analogous cast in gold, it is blackened through the traditional coloring method of Kuro-mura casting - developed in Takaoka, Japan - originally used for Buddhist altar articles, which mixes pigments with Japanese Urushi lacquer. The product gradually changes its color over the course of years due to oxidization. The longer it is used, the richer and subtler it becomes. Definitely heavy despite its small size, it will keeping all papers in the right place.
